  • WARNING: Do not store anything combustible (i.e., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, paint, etc.).  Do not store perishable items (flour, potatoes, candy, etc.).

3. Make a Plan for your rental space.

  • Photography and/or inventory the items you are storing and keep the photos or list in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
  • Your plan should take into consideration those items that you may need to access frequently.
  • Remember that you should utilized drawers in your furniture as storage places for pictures, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in table cloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.

4.Furniture should be carefully stored.

  • Place your furniture on 2"x 4" boards or on pallets whenever possible.
  • Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in card-board, marked Fragile and stacked on end.
  • You can save space by taking off removable legs from tables.
  • Sofas and love-seats can be stored on end to save floor space.
  • Always place protective cloth covers over items.
  • It is best to store mattresses flat on top of a level stack of boxes or furniture. It is always a good idea to use mattress covers which are available for sale in the office.

  • Larger appliances make excellent "packing cases" for blankets, towels, table cloths and clothes.
  • Mothball use can help prevent insect and rodent intrusions.
  • Do not place cardboard boxes directly on the concrete floor.
